The Furniture Giveaway for International Students is a non-profit event that meets the physical needs of incoming international students by harnessing the resources of our community. Every year, students at Virginia Tech throw away furniture as they move out. We collect that furniture, store & repair it during the summer, and give it away for free to the new international students who arrive in Blacksburg in August. This event started in 2002 when Darrell Cook, Steve Edwards, and Jay Lester saw a need within the international community and realized they could meet it with resources already in the community. The Furniture Giveaway stopped for three years due to the pandemic. It restarted in 2023, and we collected 280 pieces of furniture and blessed 111 students who came to the giveaway event! With your help, we can support even more students this year!
